The Reevaluation of Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO Global Geopark is Well-reputed

Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO Global Geopark has been reevaluted between 17th July and 20th July accroding to the procedures of UNESCO. Two experts from UNESCO, Mr. Setsuya Nakada and Ms. Martina Pascova attended the reevaluation. The report meeting was attended by Mr. Pang Zhenlei, Head of the Bureau of Geological Environment of Department of Land and Resources of Henan Province, Mr. Li Zhaoming, Deputy Head of the Bureau of Geological Environment of Department of Land and Resources of Henan Province, Mr. Qinzheng, Scientific Research Institute of Land and Resources in Henan Province, Mr. Zhang Yusong, Mayor of Jiyuan City, Mr. Wangwei, Member of Municipal Party Committee, General Secretary of Political Committee of Jiyuan City, Mr. Zhi Shu’an, the head of Xin’an County, Mr. Niu Youyi, Deputy Secretary-General of Jiyuan Government, Mr. Qiu Jianping, Deputy Head of Bureau of Land and Resources of Jiyuan City, etc. Mr. Wangwei and Mr. Niu Youyi also take part in the site inspection.

Four steps including reporting, site inspection, going through documents and scoring have been followed during the reevaluation.

Mr. Setsuya Nakada, Ms. Martina Pascova have carried out site inspection in Xiaogoube Scenic Area, Wangwushan Scenic Area, Wangwushan-Daimeishan Geological Museum, Science Popularization Activities Centre, Longtan Valley Sceinic Area, Daimeishan Geological Museum, Daimeishan Scenic Area, etc. during the reevaluation. It is concluded that Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO Global Geopark is the most comprehensive, characteristic and typical geopark with unique geological resources that reflects the geological tectonics, landscape, waterscape, paleontology fossils. They fully recognized the improvements and progress which have been done in the past four years.

They give the score as high as 96.675 after going through all the details of Part A and Part B during the feedback meeting on 20th in Kangmeng Hotel. Meanwhile, advice on how to combine geology, culture and biology and interprete geological phenomenon in a general way to the public has been given by the two experts from UNESCO. Also it is supposed that a team of high-quality, versatile talents should be established to realize sustainable development of resources.
