The Xiangxi United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Geopark has a complete sedimentary sequence that records the evolution of the Yangtze Platform, as well as three global stratigraphic epochs: the "Furong Formation", "Paibi Formation", and "Guzhang Formation". It includes two Cambrian global stratigraphic profiles called "Golden Nails" and the world's largest red carbonate rock forest, among other advantageous geological resources. It is a perfect example of the integration of geological ecology and ethnic culture.
In December 2023, a sister park was established with the Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO World Geopark.
