Danxiashan UNESCO Global Geopark

China Danxia Mountain World Geopark is located in the northeast of Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, with a total area of 292 square kilometers. It is the name of Danxia landform. Danxia Mountain is composed of red sandy conglomerate, which is characterized by red cliff in Chibi. It looks like layers of Chicheng and clouds. The ancients took the meaning of "color is like wodan, and can be as bright as Mingxia", and called it Danxia Mountain.

The material basis of Danxia landform is the late Cretaceous red fluvial lacustrine sandy conglomerate formed 90-70 million years ago. About 65million years ago, the area where the Geopark is located was affected by the tectonic movement of the earth, resulting in many faults and joints. At the same time, the entire Danxia basin became a denudation area.

In December, 2017, a sister Park was established with Wangwushan-Daimeishan UNESCO World Geopark.
